Legendary Pakistani singer Sajjad Ali has clarified that he never authorised an Indian television channel to use his song “Ravi.” He issued the statement after the track featured on the Indian reality show Voice of Punjab Master Champs.
The singer shared a video on Instagram to address speculation surrounding the performance. Moreover, he thanked fans worldwide for supporting his music and creating cover versions of his songs.
Sajjad Ali said he enjoys watching fan-made performances whenever they reach him. However, he stressed that appreciation for his music should not be confused with official permission to use it commercially.
Singer Rejects Claims of Copyright Approval
Sajjad Ali said he recently watched a reel showing two children performing “Ravi” on an Indian Punjabi television programme. Following the performance, some social media users claimed he had allowed the Indian channel to use his music.
The veteran singer firmly rejected those claims. He said neither he nor his team granted copyright rights or permission to the broadcaster.
According to Sajjad Ali, the channel aired the song without seeking approval. Consequently, he revealed that his legal team would contact the broadcaster regarding the matter.
Musician Revisits Pakistan Idol Controversy
Sajjad Ali also addressed the controversy surrounding Pakistan Idol. He said people had misunderstood his position for nearly a year.
The singer explained that his earlier remarks were manipulated, adding that the situation deeply disappointed him. Nevertheless, he reiterated his appreciation for fans who perform and share his songs respectfully.
His clarification came a day after contestants on Voice of Punjab Master Champs performed popular Pakistani songs. One performance featuring “Ravi” received praise from viewers on both sides of the border and sparked renewed discussion over the use of Pakistani music on Indian television.
