Military source cites withdrawal of refuelling aircraft as analysts point to strategic reassessment
TEHRAN: Reports published on Saturday claimed that the United States has reduced part of its aerial support capability in the Middle East by withdrawing a number of aerial refuelling aircraft from the region.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, a military source said Washington had pulled back at least 11 aerial refuelling aircraft following what it described as a reassessment of the regional security environment. The report did not provide details about the aircraft’s previous deployment locations or their new destinations.
The reported reduction has prompted speculation among regional observers regarding a possible shift in US military planning. However, US authorities have not publicly confirmed the reported withdrawal or commented on the claims.
Analyst links move to changing strategic calculations
Military affairs analyst Abdolreza Seddigh told Fars News Agency that the reported decision reflected what he described as a reassessment of Iran’s resilience and the broader regional situation. He argued that US officials reviewed recent developments before deciding to reduce the presence of high-value military support assets.
Seddigh also claimed that the large public turnout during funeral ceremonies for Iran’s late Supreme Leader influenced Washington’s strategic calculations. According to his assessment, the ceremonies demonstrated continued public mobilisation, prompting concerns over possible regional escalation.
No official US confirmation
The analyst further asserted that reports of widespread public anger during the funeral ceremonies contributed to fears of potential Iranian retaliation, leading to the reported repositioning of American military resources.
Despite these claims, no independent evidence has been presented to verify the reported withdrawal of the aircraft or the motivations behind any operational changes. The United States has not issued an official statement confirming the movement of aerial refuelling assets or linking any military decisions to recent developments in Iran.
The reported claims emerge as tensions remain elevated across the Middle East, with regional governments and international observers closely monitoring military deployments and diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
