Major Shift in Police and Cybercrime Leadership
Former Islamabad Police Chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), according to sources.
Rizvi will take charge of the country’s key cybercrime investigation body following a major reshuffle in the federal capital’s policing and cyber security structure.
He previously served as Inspector General of Islamabad Police after assuming charge in April 2024.
During his tenure, Rizvi supervised security operations, policing measures and law-and-order management in Islamabad.
His transfer marks a new phase for both Islamabad Police and the NCCIA.
New Leadership Changes in Islamabad Police
Following Rizvi’s move to NCCIA, Captain (Retd.) Sohail Chaudhry has been appointed as the new Islamabad Police chief.
The changes are part of broader administrative adjustments involving law enforcement and cybercrime institutions.
Rizvi’s appointment comes as Pakistan continues to expand efforts against rising digital crimes and online threats.
The NCCIA is responsible for investigating cyber offences and taking legal action against individuals involved in digital crimes.
NCCIA Role in Fighting Cybercrime
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency handles cases involving online fraud, cyber harassment, identity theft, data breaches and other digital offences.
The agency also conducts digital forensic investigations and uses technical expertise to trace cybercriminal activities.
NCCIA was established as Pakistan’s dedicated cybercrime investigation authority after replacing the Federal Investigation Agency’s cybercrime wing.
The agency operates through offices across the country and directly receives complaints related to cyber offences.
With Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi taking charge, the NCCIA is expected to strengthen its investigation capacity and enforcement against emerging cyber threats.
