Shafqat Ali Khan Presents Credentials in Yerevan
Pakistan has appointed its first-ever ambassador to Armenia after officially establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan presented his Letters of Credence to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan during a formal ceremony at the presidential palace in Yerevan.
The Pakistan Embassy in the United Arab Emirates confirmed the development on Friday.
Ambassador Khan currently serves as Pakistan’s ambassador to the UAE and will also represent Pakistan as a non-resident ambassador to Armenia.
The appointment marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Islamabad and Yerevan after the two countries formally established diplomatic relations in 2025.
Pakistan, Armenia Expand Bilateral Cooperation
Pakistan and Armenia signed a joint communiqué establishing diplomatic relations on August 31, 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the agreement after discussions with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
Both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation in multiple areas, including trade, education, culture, tourism, and economic development.
During the credential ceremony, President Khachaturyan congratulated Ambassador Khan and expressed support for expanding relations with Pakistan.
The Armenian president said both countries could explore new opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Khan conveyed greetings from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the Armenian leadership.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to developing stronger diplomatic and economic relations with Armenia.
Focus on Trade, Investment and Regional Cooperation
During his visit to Yerevan, Ambassador Khan held meetings with senior Armenian officials to discuss future cooperation.
He met Armenia’s foreign minister and Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan to review bilateral relations and regional developments.
Officials from both sides discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, education, cultural exchange, and people-to-people contacts.
The Armenian deputy foreign minister described the establishment of diplomatic ties as an important decision by the leadership of both countries.
Both nations also discussed cooperation at international and multilateral forums.
