LAHORE: The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has announced plans to expand its panic button initiative to improve the security of Chinese citizens living and working across the province.
Officials said the upgraded system will provide faster emergency alerts and strengthen protection at residential and commercial locations associated with Chinese nationals. The initiative also aims to enhance security at key facilities through improved coordination with law enforcement agencies.
Emergency Alert System to Improve Response
Under the project, panic buttons will be installed at the homes and workplaces of Chinese citizens. During an emergency, users will be able to instantly notify the relevant authorities, enabling a quicker and more coordinated response.
Moreover, the Special Protection Unit (SPU), which is responsible for the security of Chinese nationals, will also receive panic buttons to improve communication during critical situations. Officials said the project is being implemented in phases to increase its effectiveness over time.
The authority added that the modern alert system will strengthen emergency response capabilities while supporting efforts to ensure the safety of foreign nationals working on various projects in Punjab.
First Phase Targets Lahore Facilities
In the initial phase, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority will install QR code-based panic buttons at more than 200 Chinese-related facilities across Lahore.
According to officials, the technology will allow emergency information to reach the relevant institutions immediately, reducing response times and improving coordination among security agencies.
The authority said the expansion reflects the government’s continued focus on enhancing security arrangements for Chinese citizens and safeguarding important installations. Officials added that the project will continue to expand in the coming phases as authorities work to further strengthen the province’s emergency response system.
