The Head coach of Indian women cricket team Amol Muzumdar disclosed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) directed its cricketers not to receive trophy from the Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi.
“The BCCI decided that the women’s team would also not take the trophy,” Muzumdar said. “We are the champions of Asia and followed the board’s decision.”
Asked when the players would receive the trophy, Muzumdar said the team had no information about its delivery.
“We don’t know anything about the trophy. There is no news about when we will get it,” he said.
India’s women’s cricket team refused receive the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi. Indian team won the title in Dubai, but declined to accept trophy from Naqvi.
BCCI Directs Players to Skip Trophy Ceremony
The refusal broke from the usual tournament protocol, which requires the ACC president to present the trophy to the winning team. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla attended the Dubai Cricket Stadium and reportedly urged the players to accept the trophy from Naqvi.
However, sources said the BCCI had strictly instructed the players not to receive the trophy or approach the presentation stage. The latest incident also echoed India’s men’s team decision after the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai.
Previous Medal Snub Adds to Tensions
In December 2025, India’s Under-19 team also declined to receive its runners-up medals from Naqvi.
Pakistan had defeated India by 191 runs in the Under-19 Asia Cup final at the ICC Cricket Academy in Dubai. An Afghan cricket board official later presented the medals to the Indian players.
Meanwhile, repeated trophy and medal snubs have added a political dimension to cricket relations between India and Pakistan. The incidents have also raised concerns over growing political tensions affecting sporting ceremonies between the two countries.
