Farmers in Punjab have collectively used agricultural loans worth Rs25.4 billion through the Kissan Card facility. In addition, the programme supported large-scale input purchases during the wheat cultivation season, when farmers spent more than Rs100 billion on seeds, fertiliser, and other essentials.
Officials reported strong repayment performance under the scheme. Out of a recoverable amount of Rs67 billion from around 538,000 farmers, authorities have recovered 86% of the total. As a result, farmers have already repaid instalments worth Rs57 billion, reflecting steady financial participation in the programme.
Under the Kissan Card initiative, the government has allocated Rs90 billion for farmers to buy agricultural inputs for the Kharif season. Meanwhile, 300,000 farmers have already accessed inputs worth Rs30 billion through the facility.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the Kissan Card programme is improving the financial conditions of farmers across the province. She added that the initiative is reducing farmersโ dependence on middlemen and strengthening their purchasing power.
Furthermore, she stated that the government aims to support long-term financial stability in the agricultural sector. According to her, the goal is to help farming communities achieve greater independence and improved livelihoods.
In addition, the provincial government highlighted the โApna Khet, Apna Rozgarโ initiative, which complements broader agricultural reforms aimed at boosting productivity and rural income.
Similarly, officials said the combined efforts of credit access and input support are helping modernise farming practices. They also noted that digital financing tools like the Kissan Card are improving transparency and reducing delays in agricultural lending.
Overall, the government said it will continue expanding the programme to reach more farmers in upcoming seasons. It expects wider participation as awareness and access to formal credit systems improve in rural areas.
