The Meteorological Department issues a clear warning to residents across Punjab and predicts a long, punishing heatwave. It will grip the province for the next two months. Officials say the scorching spell will begin in early May and continue through June. Temperatures will climb well above normal levels in both urban and rural areas. Moreover, they expect the mercury to touch 45 degrees Celsius or higher in many districts, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Rawalpindi.
Experts Predict Scorching Days and Serious Health Risks
The meteorologists state that the heat wave will come earlier this year due to changes in weather patterns and low amounts of rain seen in the past few weeks. The scientists further indicate that the night temperature will be higher than usual, providing minimal cooling effects.
Officials Urge Public to Save Water and Stay Cool
In this regard, the Punjab government initiates unique awareness campaigns where all people are requested to use water judiciously and refrain from traveling during extremely hot periods of the day. Additionally, local administrations plan to establish cooling centers in all major cities. At the same time, free points of drinking water will be provided by localities in all busy places of trade and transportation facilities. Finally, all farmers are informed how to save their crops using irrigation systems and shading nets to avoid huge losses.
All citizens have started adjusting their lifestyles and carry more water bottles than usual. Schools have also started thinking about providing students with early holidays for summer vacations. Hopefully, the weather forecast will come true with minor modifications. Nevertheless, all authorities emphasize the importance of thorough preparations since Punjab is going to face the most challenging summer in its history.
