The Punjab Education Department has announced a ban on summer camps in schools starting July 1 following an increase in heat intensity across the province.
Earlier, authorities had allowed schools to continue summer camps until June 30. However, changing weather conditions and rising temperatures prompted the department to revise its position.
Education authorities have formally informed schools about the implementation of the ban. As a result, educational institutions will no longer be permitted to organise summer camp activities after the deadline.
Authorities Warn Schools Against Violations
The Education Department has also warned schools against continuing summer camps in violation of government instructions.
Officials indicated that institutions found operating summer camps after July 1 may face strict action. Possible measures may include financial penalties.
In addition, authorities signalled that licence cancellation could also become a consequence for non-compliance. The department emphasised that schools must follow official directions and avoid unauthorised activities.
Monitoring Teams to Visit Schools
To ensure implementation of the decision, education authorities will carry out monitoring activities. Selected teams from the department will visit schools beginning July 1.
These visits aim to check whether institutions are complying with the governmentโs instructions. Authorities have also directed local education offices to take action where violations are identified.
The department expects enforcement measures to support the implementation process across schools.
Parents Raise Concerns About Summer Holiday Work
Meanwhile, some parents pointed out that students still need to complete homework assigned for summer holidays. Although schools will suspend summer camp activities, families continue managing academic tasks during the break.
The latest decision focuses specifically on limiting school-based summer camp operations during periods of intense heat.
For now, the department maintains that the measure is necessary in view of weather conditions and student welfare. Schools across Punjab are expected to follow the revised instructions from July 1 onward.
