LAHORE: The Punjab government today approved the construction of Maryam Nawaz Sports City in Lahore. The provincial government also endorsed the feasibility study of the project. The Maryam Nawaz Sports City consists of 300 acres and it will fulfill international standards.
Officials reviewed the project’s expected expenditure, environmental impact, and technical requirements during a high-level meeting. Moreover, construction will begin only after authorities complete and approve the feasibility study. The government will also conduct a detailed survey of the proposed site.
The assessment will examine land availability, accessibility, geographical conditions, and other important factors. In addition, experts will evaluate traffic flow, geotechnical conditions, and utility infrastructure before finalising the project.
Master plan includes world-class sports facilities
The feasibility study will also assess environmental and social impacts to ensure sustainable development. Furthermore, planners will prepare a comprehensive master plan covering sports facilities, road networks, parking areas, landscaping, and essential public infrastructure.
The proposed Sports City will feature a multi-purpose outdoor stadium and a modern indoor sports complex. It will also include an Olympic-standard swimming arena, a velodrome, and a squash arena.
Additionally, the project will provide courts for lawn tennis, padel tennis, and futsal. An archery complex, multi-purpose sports ground, and sports institute are also included in the proposed design. Athlete hostels, administrative offices, commercial spaces, and restaurants will support the facility.
Meanwhile, the government plans to develop roads, parking facilities, utility services, landscaped areas, and other public amenities. Consequently, officials aim to establish a modern sports hub capable of hosting national and international sporting events while promoting athletic development across Punjab.
