Authority advises users to verify registered mobile numbers
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a public advisory warning WhatsApp users across the country that accounts linked to inactive, blocked, deactivated or unregistered SIM cards could face access issues.
According to the authority, mobile numbers now serve as an essential part of a person’s digital identity and require proper registration and active status to ensure uninterrupted access to communication services.
Additionally, PTA warned that users connected to invalid or inactive SIM cards could lose access to their WhatsApp accounts along with chats, contacts and other important personal information.
The authority urged citizens to immediately check whether the mobile number connected to their WhatsApp account remains active and officially registered in their own name.
Regulator highlights need for timely account updates
Meanwhile, PTA also advised users to transfer or update their WhatsApp accounts if their current linked number has become inactive or no longer meets registration requirements.
Furthermore, officials cautioned that delays in updating account information could lead to unexpected account logouts and create complications when attempting to restore access.
The telecom regulator also instructed users requiring biometric verification or SIM re-verification to visit nearby mobile franchises or customer service centers for assistance.
According to PTA, biometric verification remains a critical security measure because it helps protect communication systems and prevents misuse of digital identities.
In its public awareness campaign, the authority emphasized the need for citizens to safeguard their digital presence and maintain secure communication channels.
Additionally, users were encouraged to stay informed through PTA’s official platforms and its WhatsApp-based digital assistance service.
The campaign carries the message: “Protect Your WhatsApp. Protect Your Digital Identity.”
