The Pakistan Peoples Party has assured support for the federal budget. The commitment followed a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Monday.
Leaders Discuss Budget and Political Matters
A consultative meeting took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr. President Asif Ali Zardari led the PPP delegation. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif headed the government side.
Several senior federal ministers and finance officials attended the session. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and party budget committee members also participated.
According to sources, both sides discussed key budgetary and political issues. Furthermore, they reviewed proposals related to the upcoming federal budget. Sources said consultations are also underway regarding postponing the budget presentation. The proposed new date is June 12 instead of June 10.
Technical Committees Continue Consultations
Sources revealed that both parties broadly agreed on most budget proposals. However, technical committees will continue discussions on remaining points. These consultations aim to finalize the fiscal framework before budget presentation.
During the meeting, President Zardari emphasized public welfare and economic stability. He also stressed the importance of protecting provincial rights in the budget. Moreover, he urged policymakers to prioritize relief measures for citizens.
According to a statement from the Presidentโs House Secretariat, Zardari called for balanced economic planning. He directed officials to align growth objectives with public welfare programs. Consequently, the upcoming budget may focus on both development and social support initiatives.
The meeting highlighted continued cooperation between the ruling allies. As discussions progress, both parties appear committed to reaching consensus on key fiscal matters before the budget announcement.
