A lightning strike injured at least 22 female students at a girls’ seminary in Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, triggering panic among families and residents in the surrounding area.
The incident took place on Wednesday in the village of Raangoon, located in Oshirai Dara, where hundreds of students were present when the weather-related emergency occurred.
Although the incident caused fear and confusion, authorities confirmed that no fatalities were reported.
Lightning Hits Girls’ Seminary in Upper Dir
According to initial information, the lightning strike occurred while students were inside the seminary building.
At the time of the incident, around 260 students were present on the premises.
The sudden strike created panic among students and staff.
As a result, local residents immediately began rescue efforts to assist those affected.
However, emergency teams experienced difficulties reaching the area because of its remote location.
Despite these challenges, injured students were transported for medical treatment as quickly as possible.
Injured Students Shifted to Hospital for Treatment
Following the rescue operation, authorities shifted the injured students to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Wari.
Medical teams started treatment immediately after the students arrived.
Hospital staff continued monitoring the condition of those affected.
Meanwhile, concern spread across the area after news of the incident emerged.
A large number of relatives and local residents gathered at the hospital seeking updates about the injured students.
Officials stated that all affected students received medical attention.

Authorities later released the names of the students injured during the incident.
The injured students were identified as Afnan Bibi, Insa, Shifa, Hasina, Bushra Bibi, Saniya, Fariha, Shaida Bibi, Gulfam, Urooj, Safeena, Hasina daughter of Humayun, Salwa, Alishma, Manahil, Arz, Hasina daughter of Abdul Rahman, Faryal, Abu Niza, Yusra and Nida.
Officials confirmed that all listed students were among those receiving treatment after the incident.
Rescue Efforts Continue as Community Responds
The incident drew an immediate response from residents of the surrounding villages.
Community members helped support rescue activities before emergency teams reached the location.
Additionally, families remained present at the hospital as medical staff continued treatment.
Although lightning incidents can occur during changing weather conditions, this event caused widespread concern because of the number of students present inside the seminary.
