Pre-Hajj flight operations have officially begun in Pakistan, marking the start of one of the countryโs largest annual travel movements. Pakistan International Airlines has announced a comprehensive plan to transport more than 55,000 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
The national carrier will operate 191 special flights during the pre-Hajj phase. These flights will depart from multiple cities across Pakistan. The operation is scheduled to run from April 19 to May 21.
Officials say the initiative aims to ensure smooth and timely travel for pilgrims. Extensive arrangements have been made to manage the large number of passengers.
Flight Schedule and City-Wise Distribution
The first Hajj flight, PK-747, will depart from Sialkot to Madinah. It is scheduled to leave at 1:55am on April 19. The flight will carry more than 390 pilgrims.
Under the government scheme, around 49,000 pilgrims will travel through PIA. In addition, over 6,000 pilgrims using private Hajj operators will also be accommodated.
A large portion of flights will depart from Islamabad. Around 15,400 pilgrims will travel via 46 flights from the capital. Karachi will handle over 15,000 pilgrims through 55 flights.
From Lahore, more than 12,300 pilgrims will depart on 34 flights. Faisalabad will contribute 23 flights carrying 3,680 pilgrims.
Meanwhile, Multan will send over 5,300 pilgrims through 13 flights. Quetta will handle 4,487 pilgrims via 15 flights. The first Quetta flight will depart on April 21.
These operations highlight the scale of coordination required. Each airport is equipped with dedicated teams to manage departures efficiently.
Facilities and Support for Pilgrims
Authorities have emphasized improved services for pilgrims. Staff at airports and airline offices will provide guidance throughout the journey. Assistance desks have been set up to support travelers at every step.
The โRoute to Makkahโ initiative is also being implemented. This facility offers streamlined immigration procedures. Pilgrims can complete Saudi immigration formalities before departure.
Officials say this reduces waiting time upon arrival in Saudi Arabia. It also ensures a smoother travel experience for elderly passengers.
The CEO of Pakistan International Airlines has issued strict instructions. All staff must maintain high service standards. Authorities have warned that negligence will not be tolerated.
Other Airlines Join Hajj Operations
In addition to PIA, private carriers have also started operations. AirSial has launched its first Hajj flight from Karachi. The flight carried around 160 pilgrims.
The inaugural flight departed early morning. Officials from the Pakistan Airports Authority attended the ceremony. Government representatives also reviewed arrangements at the airport.
They inspected immigration counters and passenger facilities. Authorities expressed satisfaction with the preparations. They praised efforts to ensure comfort and efficiency for pilgrims.
The pre-Hajj operation will continue for several weeks. Thousands of pilgrims will travel daily during this period. Coordination between airlines, airports, and government agencies remains critical.
This large-scale operation reflects Pakistanโs commitment to facilitating religious travel. It also highlights improvements in aviation services and passenger handling systems.
As flights continue, authorities urge pilgrims to follow travel guidelines. Proper documentation and timely arrival at airports are essential. These steps will help ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.
