Extreme Heat Hits Several Cities
A severe heatwave continues to grip large parts of Pakistan, with several cities facing dangerously high apparent temperatures. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned citizens to take precautionary measures as extreme heat conditions persist across the country.
According to the Met Office, Sibi recorded the highest “feels like” temperature in the country at a scorching 68°C. The reading reflects the impact of intense heat, humidity, and weather conditions on the human body.
Lahore, Sukkur and Sargodha Face Dangerous Conditions
Sukkur recorded a “feels like” temperature of 55°C, while Sargodha reached 51°C. Lahore also reported an apparent temperature of 51°C, creating difficult conditions for residents and outdoor workers.
Bahawalpur recorded 49°C, while Hyderabad, Faisalabad, and Multan each reported 48°C. Karachi experienced a “feels like” temperature of 47°C.
Dera Ismail Khan also recorded 47°C, followed by Bhakkar at 46°C and Sialkot at 45°C. In Peshawar, the apparent temperature was recorded at 41°C.
Met Office Urges Public to Take Precautions
The weather office has advised people to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. Citizens have also been urged to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activity during peak heat hours.
Health experts warn that prolonged exposure to such extreme temperatures can increase the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heatstroke. People working outdoors, children, elderly citizens, and patients are especially vulnerable during the ongoing heatwave.
The Met Office said precautionary steps are necessary until the current spell of extreme heat weakens.
