The Pakistani government has approved public attendance for all three Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoff matches following a decision endorsed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Mohsin Naqvi announced the approval on Monday, confirming that fans will return to stadiums for the remaining fixtures.
Stadium access restored with conditions
In a statement posted on X, Naqvi said he met the prime minister and secured permission for spectators at all playoff matches. Moreover, he noted that the decision comes with conditions aimed at supporting national austerity efforts.
Additionally, authorities urged fans to use public transport and minimize fuel consumption while traveling to venues. Officials said the guidance aligns with ongoing measures to reduce energy use during economic pressure.
Meanwhile, the prime minister extended best wishes to all four teams competing in the playoffs. Naqvi added that the leadership looks forward to an โexciting and entertainingโ conclusion to the tournament.
Playoff schedule confirmed across Karachi and Lahore
The PSL playoffs will begin with Islamabad United facing Peshawar Zalmi in Karachi on Tuesday. Subsequently, Hyderabad Kingsmen will meet Multan Sultans in Lahore on Wednesday.
Furthermore, the loser of the first match will play the winner of the second in Lahore on Friday. The final is scheduled for May 3 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, bringing the tournament to a close.
Initially, organizers planned matches across six cities, including Rawalpindi, Multan, Peshawar, and Faisalabad. However, they later restricted venues to Karachi and Lahore and held games without spectators due to austerity measures linked to rising global fuel costs.
Consequently, the latest decision marks a partial reversal, restoring fan access for the decisive stage of the tournament while maintaining cost-conscious guidelines.
