The federal government has extended its concessional duty drawback scheme for rice exporters by three months. In addition, it has increased export incentives to help Pakistani rice remain competitive in international markets.
The revised measures are intended to strengthen rice exports and narrow the price gap between Pakistani and Indian rice.
Government Extends Concession Until September 2026
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the concession period has been extended from June 30 to September 30, 2026.
Furthermore, the government has approved an additional 2 percent concession under the Rs20 billion duty drawback scheme.
Officials believe the extension will provide exporters with continued financial support while improving Pakistan’s position in the global rice trade.
Higher Duty Drawback for Rice Exporters
The revised scheme offers increased incentives for both basmati and non-basmati rice exporters.
Under the updated policy, basmati rice exporters will receive a 9 percent concessional duty drawback.
Meanwhile, the duty drawback for non-basmati rice has increased from 3 percent to 5 percent. As a result, exporters can reduce costs and compete more effectively in international markets.
Claims Accepted Until Funding Limit Is Reached
The Ministry of Commerce stated that exporters can submit drawback claims for shipments made up to September 30, 2026.
However, claims will remain eligible only until the total value generated through the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) reaches Rs20 billion, whichever occurs first.
Once the allocated Rs20 billion limit is exhausted, no additional duty drawback claims will be accepted under the scheme.
Move Aims to Strengthen Global Competitiveness
The previous duty drawback concession expired on June 30, 2026. Therefore, the latest extension ensures exporters continue receiving financial support during a period of intense international competition.
By increasing incentives and extending the scheme, the government hopes to improve the global competitiveness of Pakistani rice, expand export volumes, and strengthen the country’s agricultural export sector in the coming months.
