A medical board recommended concessions for former prime minister Imran Khan during imprisonment. The board examined Khan at Adiala Jail on August 10. It warned stress could cause complications.
The recommendations reached the Supreme Court through its medical summary. A three-member bench will hear petitions today. The board recorded Khanโs blood pressure at 140/80mmHg. He reported head heaviness and heart palpitations.
However, doctors found no breathing difficulty or chest pain. They recorded severe anxiety during the assessment. Doctors linked his fluctuating blood pressure, headaches and restlessness to mental stress.
Medical Board Recommends Greater Family Interaction
The board urged jail authorities to provide Khan one hour of walking and relaxation. It recommended newspapers, magazines, books and television to reduce anxiety and blood pressure.
Moreover, doctors advised more frequent meetings with his family and wife, Bushra Bibi. The summary said human interaction could help control Khanโs anxiety and blood pressure. Khan linked his stress to limited family meetings and restricted access to newspapers and television.
Jail Administration Details Healthcare Arrangements
Meanwhile, the Adiala Jail superintendent told the Supreme Court that Khan receives healthcare. Medical officers reportedly examine him three times daily and monitor vital signs. They check his blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation while recording results.ย
The administration also said doctors from public hospitals have examined prisoners when necessary. Regarding Khanโs eye condition, officials said doctors provided immediate treatment after diagnosis.ย
PIMS ophthalmologist Dr Muhammad Arif Khan and vitreoretinal surgeon Dr Nadeem Qureshi treated the condition. According to the superintendent, Khanโs condition improved significantly after specialist care. The Supreme Court is set to consider petitions concerning Khanโs access and prison conditions.
