LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy to explore potential collaboration on the ambitious Punjab Film City project, signaling renewed focus on developing Pakistanโs creative industry.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, the chief minister appreciated Sharmeenโs global achievements and her role in highlighting social issues through documentary filmmaking. In response, the filmmaker praised Maryam Nawazโs contributions to promoting art and culture in the province.
Vision for a comprehensive media production hub
During the meeting, both sides discussed collaboration on the Punjab Film City project planned in NUST City. The chief minister emphasized that the project aims to become Pakistanโs first fully integrated media production hub.
She explained that the facility will include modern studios, sound stages, post-production labs, and dedicated shooting locations. Additionally, the plan features a convention hall, a media trade hub, and institutions such as a film and music school. As a result, officials expect the project to support film, television, and digital media production under one platform.
