A Dublin court has remanded a 41-year-old man in custody after charging him in connection with a petrol bomb attack on a mosque in the Irish capital. The incident took place at the entrance of the Faizan E Madinah Mosque on Talbot Street and sparked widespread concern over religiously motivated violence.
Irish police identified the accused as Saeid Khosroabadi, 41. Officers arrested him after investigating the fire at the mosque. During a court hearing on Wednesday, Judge Michele Finan refused bail because of the serious nature of the charges. The accused appeared without legal representation due to an ongoing industrial action by solicitors over legal aid reforms. Several solicitors reportedly walked out of the courtroom in solidarity with the protest.
The judge remanded Khosroabadi in custody until his next appearance at Cloverhill District Court on July 8. She also transferred the case to the Circuit Court and ordered the preparation of a book of evidence by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Irish Muslim Council strongly condemned the attack. The council described it as a serious assault on a place of worship and warned about the growing threat of anti-Muslim hatred and far-right extremism. It urged authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice while calling for stronger action against hate speech and extremist propaganda.
