The District Education Authority Lahore completed its official inquiry into the tragic roof collapse at an illegal tuition centre in Kahna on Thursday and submitted the comprehensive final report to the local district administration. The detailed investigation uncovered several alarming safety violations regarding the recent fatal building incident.
The official report reveals that the tuition centre did not operate from a purpose-built educational or commercial facility. Instead, the independent operator established the entire teaching facility inside an old residential house. Furthermore, the District Education Authority confirmed that the management failed to register the centre with any government department, meaning the facility operated completely illegally.
Investigators found that a local woman privately tutored the young children of her relatives and acquaintances at the premises. At the exact time of the accident, approximately 25 to 30 children occupied the small, cramped room. This high density of students inside the fragile structure directly magnified the scale of the tragedy when the concrete roof collapsed.
Lahore Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Tariq Mahmood explained that privately run tuition centres inside residential homes currently fall completely outside the department’s official registration framework. He explicitly noted that existing provincial laws do not provide any formal mechanism for monitoring or registering these residential setups. Consequently, education authorities struggle to enforce structural safety codes in private dwellings.
The Education Authority has now forwarded these critical findings to the district administration to initiate immediate administrative action. Based on the submitted text, the administration plans to introduce stricter building regulations and legal safety measures for all unregistered academies operating in residential neighborhoods. The provincial government and local officials firmly hope these new legal protocols will prevent similar structural tragedies.
