LAHORE โ The Lahore Traffic Police has intensified its enforcement operations against traffic violations, officially declaring several major city corridors as strict no-go zones for motorcyclists traveling without safety helmets. This aggressive regulatory move follows the successful deployment of the departmentโs first artificial intelligence (AI)-based compliance survey. The technical assessment revealed that a remarkable 97.11 percent of motorcyclists traveling along Lahoreโs primary model roads are currently utilizing protective headgear.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Ammara Athar stated that the modern digital survey utilized advanced AI technology integrated seamlessly with Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) surveillance cameras across 17 major traffic intersections. During the specified evaluation hours, automated systems monitored 264,112 motorcycles passing through these arterial points. Consequently, data analysis confirmed that 256,473 riders correctly wore helmets, while a minority of 7,639 violators traveled without vital head protection.
Therefore, the traffic department has formally cordoned off key urban routesโincluding The Mall, Jail Road, Canal Road, and Main Boulevard Canttโfor non-compliant riders. According to the CTO, the strict zero-tolerance safety policy will immediately expand to all secondary roads adjoining these primary model corridors. This widespread geographic extension aims to permanently embed better road safety habits and significantly reduce overall traffic fatalities across the provincial capital.
Ultimately, the localized implementation of automated enforcement tools reflects a broader provincial shift toward tech-driven civic administration in Punjab. Public health data indicates that this heightened helmet usage has already helped reduce severe head injury cases in public hospitals by 40 percent. Moving forward, the city’s traffic management intends to maintain continuous AI surveillance to ensure that commuter compliance remains near absolute during peak travel hours.
