Defence Minister Says Comments Hurt Martyrsโ Families
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticized remarks made by JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying they were disrespectful toward the sacrifices of Pakistan Army personnel.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Khawaja Asif said he did not expect such comments from Fazlur Rehman, who is also a prominent religious scholar.
He added that the politician should have chosen his words more carefully while discussing sensitive matters related to the armed forces.
Asif Defends Soldiersโ Sacrifices
Khawaja Asif said the claim that soldiers sacrifice their lives only because they receive salaries was unjustified.
He stated that soldiers do not risk their lives for financial reasons. Instead, they serve because of their commitment to their country and their beliefs.
The defence minister said such remarks hurt the feelings of families who lost their loved ones while serving the nation.
He also highlighted that the fight against terrorism continues across Pakistan. According to him, army personnel, law enforcement officials, and civilians continue to lose their lives during these efforts.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan also reacted to the statement. He said Pakistan Army is a source of pride for the nation.
He added that soldiers continue to sacrifice their lives while fighting terrorism and protecting the country.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon also criticized the remarks. He said the sacrifices of army martyrs represent a source of national pride.
Memon added that disrespecting the services of armed forces personnel is unfortunate. He emphasized that every Pakistani should respect those who serve the country.
Debate Over Freedom of Expression
Sharjeel Memon said democracy allows people to express their opinions. However, he added that freedom of speech should not become a reason to ignore the sacrifices of national institutions.
The reactions have sparked debate over public statements regarding the armed forces and the importance of respecting those who lose their lives in national service.
