Authorities report surge in digital threats targeting infrastructure, businesses and public institutions
Israeli authorities have reported a sharp increase in cyberattacks allegedly linked to Iran since the launch of the US-Israeli military campaign against Tehran earlier this year, according to the head of Israel’s National Cyber Directorate.
Yossi Karadi, Director General of the National Cyber Directorate, told German newspaper Die Welt that Israeli authorities recorded approximately 4,800 hostile cyber incidents during June 2026, compared with around 1,600 incidents reported during the same month in 2025.
According to Karadi, the dramatic increase highlights the growing cyber dimension of the ongoing regional confrontation, even as diplomatic efforts continue to reduce military tensions.
Critical sectors remain primary targets
Karadi said the attacks targeted a broad range of sectors, including critical infrastructure, government institutions, small and medium-sized businesses, and members of the public.
He added that law firms, accounting firms, and other professional service providers were among the organizations targeted by cyber campaigns.
Although some of the groups behind the attacks demonstrated advanced technical capabilities, Karadi said Israeli cybersecurity agencies had so far managed to prevent major disruptions to critical infrastructure.
“Some groups are very skilled,” he said, stressing that authorities continue treating the threats with utmost seriousness despite successfully defending essential systems.
Cyber conflict continues despite diplomatic efforts
Meanwhile, Karadi noted that cyber warfare remains active regardless of developments on the military front, emphasizing that digital confrontations do not necessarily follow conventional ceasefire agreements.
He warned that cyberspace presents an ongoing security challenge requiring continuous monitoring, rapid response, and enhanced defensive capabilities.
Israeli officials have increased cooperation with public institutions and private organizations to strengthen cybersecurity resilience as cyber threats continue evolving alongside broader regional tensions.
Authorities also urged businesses and public organizations to remain vigilant by implementing updated security measures, improving threat detection systems, and following official cybersecurity guidance to reduce the risk of successful attacks against sensitive digital networks.
