Yemen’s Houthis attacked the southern Saudi cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait and Jazan with ballistic missiles and drones on Wednesday.
A Saudi-led coalition spokesperson said the attacks marked the second consecutive day of Houthi strikes against the kingdom.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Malki said the Iran-aligned group continued targeting Saudi Arabia’s national assets and critical infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence lifted alerts in Khamis Mushait and Abha following Tuesday’s Houthi attacks on the cities.
Those attacks reportedly wounded 73 people and caused fires at several oil installations, according to Saudi authorities.
Al-Malki said the coalition would respond responsibly to protect Saudi sovereignty, national assets and civilians from further attacks.
On Tuesday, the Houthis targeted an airbase in Khamis Mushait and oil infrastructure in nearby areas.
The attacks represented one of the largest Houthi operations against Saudi Arabia since the US-Israeli war on Iran began in February.
Moreover, fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis has intensified in recent months, raising concerns about renewed wider conflict.
A UN-brokered truce in 2022 largely halted years of fighting between the Houthis and the Saudi-backed Yemeni government.
Saudi Arabia leads an Arab coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which the Houthis expelled from Sanaa 12 years ago.
The conflict has increasingly become part of the wider regional confrontation involving Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States.
In July, the Houthis declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.
The Saudi-led coalition subsequently launched strikes against what it described as Houthi military facilities in Yemen.
Furthermore, Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces have recently launched a multi-pronged offensive against Houthi-held areas.
The government says it aims to recapture territory controlled by the Houthis after their recent attempts to advance toward government positions.
Meanwhile, Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reported that at least 32 people had died in Saudi strikes on Yemen’s Al Jawf over two days.
Saudi Arabia has not confirmed carrying out those reported strikes.
The kingdom has described the Houthi attacks as a dangerous escalation, while the Houthis say their strikes respond to Saudi actions in Yemen.
