Military says operation targeted senior militant figure
The Israeli military announced on Monday that it carried out a targeted strike in Lebanon that killed Wael Mahmoud Abd al-Halim, a commander affiliated with Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).
According to the Israeli military, the operation took place on Sunday night in the Baalbek area of Lebanon’s northwestern Bekaa region. Israeli officials stated that Halim played a role in coordinating and integrating PIJ operatives into Hezbollah-linked combat activities.
Additionally, military officials said they took precautionary measures before the operation to reduce the possibility of civilian casualties in the targeted area.
The announcement comes amid continuing military operations and heightened tensions across multiple fronts in the region.
Israeli forces also report death of Hamas military leader
Meanwhile, the Israeli military also confirmed the death of Hamas military leader Izz ad-Din al-Haddad following a separate strike in Gaza.
According to military officials, al-Haddad died in an operation carried out on Friday. The confirmation followed earlier reports indicating that Hamas had also acknowledged his death.
Furthermore, Israeli Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir described the operation as a major military development. He stated that al-Haddad had allegedly played a significant role in events linked to the October 7 attacks.
Israeli officials also said military operations against armed groups would continue as part of ongoing security efforts.
However, developments surrounding military operations and casualty reports continue to evolve as regional tensions remain high and international attention remains focused on the broader conflict.
