Military Maintains Preparedness Despite Regional De-Escalation Efforts
JERUSALEM: The Israeli military has prepared for the possibility of a prolonged deployment in southern Lebanon despite ongoing diplomatic efforts following the recently announced understanding between the United States and Iran aimed at ending hostilities across multiple regional fronts.
According to Israeli media reports, security officials indicated that the army is prepared to remain in Lebanon for an extended period if directed by Israelโs political leadership. Sources cited by Israelโs public broadcaster said military forces have developed plans for various scenarios and remain on alert as regional developments continue to unfold.
Furthermore, officials stressed that operational readiness remains a priority, regardless of diplomatic progress between Washington and Tehran. Reports also indicated that military activity in parts of southern Lebanon has continued despite announcements regarding broader ceasefire arrangements.
Lebanese and Iranian Officials Highlight Ceasefire Commitments
Meanwhile, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated that the memorandum of understanding reached between the United States and Iran includes commitments aimed at reducing military escalation throughout the region, including Lebanon.
In addition, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that ending hostilities in Lebanon forms an important component of the broader agreement between Tehran and Washington. He also reiterated calls for an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory as part of efforts to secure lasting stability.
Regional Tensions Continue Despite Diplomatic Progress
The latest developments come as diplomatic initiatives seek to lower tensions following months of conflict that have caused significant human and material losses across the region.
According to official figures, military operations in Lebanon have resulted in thousands of casualties and injuries, while more than one million people have been displaced from their homes.
Israel continues to maintain positions in areas of southern Lebanon, some of which have been contested for decades. During the current conflict, Israeli forces advanced several kilometres into Lebanese territory as part of ongoing military operations.
While diplomatic negotiations continue ahead of a planned signing ceremony in Switzerland later this week, uncertainty remains over how quickly security conditions on the ground will change and whether all parties will fully implement the proposed arrangements.
