BRICS leaders have rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza while calling for stronger efforts to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The position came as leaders addressed the wars in Iran and Ukraine during their two-day summit in New Delhi.
The bloc adopted the New Delhi Declaration unanimously on the summit’s first day. The declaration outlined BRICS’ position on several international conflicts.
BRICS Opposes Forced Displacement From Gaza
BRICS leaders expressed “deep concern” over continued violence in Gaza despite the October 2025 ceasefire agreement.
They called for an end to “any policies aimed at forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.”
The declaration also raised “concern regarding arrangements that may prejudice the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and legitimise or prolong occupation.”
The bloc reaffirmed that a lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must come through peaceful means.
“We reaffirm that a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only be achieved by peaceful means and depends on the fulfilment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the rights to self-determination and return,” it said.
BRICS Calls for Conflict Prevention
The leaders also addressed wider global tensions, highlighting the current international climate of polarisation and distrust.
They urged the international community to respond to security challenges through diplomatic and political measures.
BRICS members stressed the “need to engage in conflict prevention efforts, including through addressing their root causes.”
The bloc also encouraged regional organisations to play a stronger role in preventing and resolving conflicts.
“We encourage the active role of regional organisations in conflict prevention and resolution and support all efforts conducive to the peaceful settlement of crises,” the declaration said.
Leaders Raise Nuclear Conflict Concerns
The BRICS declaration also highlighted growing risks surrounding nuclear conflict.
Leaders called for disarmament, arms control and nonproliferation as part of efforts to address those risks.
The declaration expressed “serious concern” over “deliberate attacks” targeting civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities.
It further stressed the importance of maintaining nuclear safeguards and safety during armed conflicts.
“Nuclear safeguards, safety, and security must always be upheld, including in armed conflicts, to protect people and the environment from harm,” it said.
The declaration therefore combined concerns over Gaza and broader global conflicts with calls for diplomacy, conflict prevention and nuclear safety.
