Iraqi authorities have seized a drone-launching platform linked to an attack on an oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia.
Security Media Cell chief Saad Maan confirmed that Iraqi forces located the platform inside Iraqi territory. Authorities are now working to identify those responsible.
Iraq Seizes Drone Launch Platform
Maan said an intelligence and security task force successfully located and seized the launch platform.
In an official statement, Maan said: “An intelligence and security task force made significant efforts and managed to locate and seize the launch platform inside Iraqi territory.”
He explained that investigators are continuing their work following the discovery. The probe includes forensic experts, technical documentation, and detailed forensic examinations.
These measures are being conducted “not only to seize the platform, but also through continued intensive field and intelligence efforts to identify those involved,” he added.
The investigation therefore aims to determine who operated the platform and participated in the attack.
Security Forces Pursue Suspects
Iraqi security and intelligence agencies are also pursuing those suspected of involvement in cross-border attacks against Saudi targets.
Iraqi military spokesman Sabah al-Numan confirmed that authorities are conducting “pursuit operations to arrest all those involved”.
Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities have continued security coordination with neighbouring countries. Maan said Baghdad and Riyadh maintain communication channels at several government levels.
These channels allow both sides to exchange important intelligence and security information related to the attacks.
Iraq Approves Joint Investigation Request
The investigation has also expanded following the discovery of additional drone launch platforms near Iraq’s border with Iran.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi approved an Iranian request for a joint investigation into the findings.
The move comes as Iraqi authorities increase efforts to prevent their territory from being used for attacks against neighbouring countries.
Saudi Arabia Seeks Security Measures
Saudi Arabia announced Friday that multiple drones launched from Iraq had struck sections of its strategic East-West pipeline.
The attacks targeted areas across the Riyadh and Medina regions, causing injuries and infrastructure damage.
However, Riyadh has decided against military retaliation at this stage. Saudi authorities instead accepted a direct request from the Iraqi prime minister.
The request gives Baghdad time to strengthen security measures and prevent Iraqi territory from being used against Saudi Arabia and other regional neighbours.
The seizure of the launch platform now adds a significant development to the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, Iraqi authorities continue efforts to locate and arrest those allegedly involved.
