Government College University (GCU) Lahore has entered a new academic partnership with Canada’s University of Regina (UoR).
The two universities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Student Exchange Programme Agreement (SEPA). The agreements aim to strengthen academic collaboration, joint research and student mobility.
GCU Lahore and University of Regina Sign Agreements
GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry and UoR Associate Vice President (International) Haroon Chaudhry signed the agreements.
The ceremony took place at GCU Lahore’s main campus on Friday. The partnership will create new opportunities for students from both universities.
Under the SEPA, each institution can send up to three undergraduate students on exchange every academic year.
However, students must meet specific academic requirements before applying for the exchange programme.
GCU students must complete at least two years of study. Meanwhile, UoR students must complete 30 credit hours to qualify.
Students to Gain Research Opportunities
The partnership will also connect eligible students with research opportunities through Mitacs, a Canadian national research organisation.
Students can apply for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship under the collaboration. The programme offers a 12-week paid research experience.
The internship covers fields including technology, engineering and social sciences. Therefore, the partnership could provide students with both academic and practical research exposure.
The exchange agreement also creates a broader platform for students to experience academic environments outside their home institutions.
GCU Highlights Research and Student Development
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry briefed the Canadian delegation about GCU’s research programmes and institutional history.
He highlighted the university’s focus on more than academic education. According to him, GCU also prioritises skills development, character building and students’ overall growth.
The university supports these goals through academic programmes and co-curricular activities.
Meanwhile, the new agreement provides a structured framework for collaboration between GCU Lahore and the University of Regina. It also gives students opportunities to participate in international academic and research activities.
The partnership marks a new step in strengthening educational links between the two universities.
