Israel has signed an agreement worth billions of dollars with the United States on purchasing two squadrons of highly advanced fighter jets, intending to attain sustained air supremacy. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the initiative would help in reinforcing Israel’s “dominance in the air.” The contract includes advanced stealth F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin and advanced warplanes called F-15IA from Boeing.
In addition, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz asserted that the plan is vital to maintaining a military advantage. He argued that the purchase of these aircraft forms an integral component of the “Shield of Israel” project, which is intended to provide supremacy in the air for decades. Israel is already in possession of several F-35 fighter jets, which are among the best aircrafts ever manufactured.
Massive Defence Expansion and Local Production Goals
At the same time, Netanyahu outlined a broader vision to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. He announced plans to increase the defence budget by 350 billion shekels, or $118 billion, over the next decade. This funding will support domestic production of advanced weapons and aircraft.
Air Power at the Centre of Regional Conflicts
In addition, the Israeli Air Force remains a key player in current hostilities. In the Gaza Strip conflict, the Air Force launched intensive air strikes against “militant infrastructure,” but the entire densely populated area was heavily damaged.
Also, Israel launched long-distance raids in recent tensions with Iran. The new agreement comes amid growing defense budgets, emphasizing that air supremacy is a top priority in a highly unstable region.
