Pakistan Emerges Among Leading Truck Tyre Exporters
Pakistan has entered the list of top global exporters of truck and bus radial tyres, marking a significant achievement for the countryโs manufacturing and export sector. The development reflects the rapid growth of Pakistanโs tyre industry and its increasing presence in international markets.
One of the major drivers behind this success is Service Long March Tyres Ltd, commonly known as SLM. Since starting operations in 2022, the company has expanded aggressively across several overseas markets. Its exports have shown strong growth in countries including the United States and Brazil, while also building market presence in emerging economies such as South Africa and Egypt.
Industry experts view this expansion as a major milestone for Pakistanโs industrial sector. The tyre industry was previously dominated by imported products, but local manufacturers are now competing successfully at the international level.
SLM has positioned itself as a competitive exporter by using advanced Chinese manufacturing technology. This technology has allowed the company to maintain one of the lowest production cost structures among tyre manufacturers in Pakistan. Lower production costs have strengthened the companyโs pricing advantage in highly competitive global markets.
As a result, nearly 40 percent of SLMโs truck and bus radial tyre production is now exported overseas. This export ratio highlights growing international demand for Pakistani-made tyres and signals increasing confidence in local manufacturing standards.
Domestic Tyre Market Shows Massive Growth Potential
Pakistanโs domestic tyre market continues to offer strong long-term growth opportunities. The country has a large transportation sector that creates consistent demand for truck, bus, and passenger vehicle tyres.
According to industry estimates, annual demand in Pakistanโs truck and bus tyre segment stands at nearly 1.7 million units. At the same time, the passenger vehicle market requires around seven million tyres every year.
For many years, imported tyres fulfilled a major portion of this demand. However, local production is steadily replacing imported products as domestic manufacturers improve quality and expand production capacity.
The shift toward local manufacturing is considered important for Pakistanโs economy. Increased domestic production helps reduce import dependence, strengthens industrial output, and supports job creation within the country.
SLM currently holds an estimated 58 percent share in Pakistanโs truck and bus radial tyre segment. The companyโs strong market position reflects both rising local demand and growing customer confidence in locally produced tyres.
Expansion Plans Aim to Boost Exports Further
SLM is now preparing for another major production expansion to meet increasing domestic and international demand. The company currently manufactures approximately 1.6 million truck and bus radial tyres annually.
Officials say production capacity is expected to rise to two million units by July 2026. A further increase to 2.2 million units is planned by June 2027.
The expansion strategy aims to strengthen Pakistanโs position in the global tyre export market while supporting local industry growth. Analysts believe the countryโs competitive labour costs, expanding manufacturing base, and growing export infrastructure could help Pakistan become a stronger player in the international automotive supply chain.
The rapid rise of Pakistanโs tyre exports also reflects broader changes within the countryโs industrial sector. Manufacturers are increasingly focusing on export-oriented production and international quality standards to compete globally.
With exports rising and production expanding, Pakistanโs tyre industry appears set for continued growth in the coming years.
