ISLAMABAD: Direct flight operations between Iraq and Pakistan have officially resumed after an 86-day suspension, restoring air connectivity between the two countries and easing travel for passengers.
According to officials, Iraqi Airways flight IA-409 arrived in Karachi from Baghdad at 4:53am on Saturday, marking the first resumed service. Shortly afterward, return flight IA-410 departed Karachi for Baghdad at 7:14am.
Flight Services Resume After Months-Long Pause
Authorities said the suspension had disrupted regular operations between the two countries for nearly three months. The last direct Baghdad-Karachi flight landed on February 28, while IA-409 last operated on February 15 before the route was suspended.
Officials also confirmed that scheduled services planned for May 2 and May 3 were cancelled before the suspension continued. However, the restoration of operations now signals a return to normal flight activity between the two destinations.
Improved Travel and Stronger Connectivity Expected
The resumption of direct flights is expected to improve travel convenience for passengers from both countries. In particular, it will benefit those travelling for religious visits, business activities, and family connections.
Officials said the restored route will also strengthen bilateral connectivity between Pakistan and Iraq.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that Iraqi Airways plans to launch direct flights from Baghdad to Islamabad in the near future. The new service would further expand air links and offer more travel options between the two countries.
