A proposed memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States could include an end to the ongoing conflict across multiple fronts, according to a report published by Tasnim News Agency on Sunday. The report stated that the draft agreement also addresses regional tensions involving Israel and economic sanctions imposed on Tehran.
According to the report, the potential agreement would include a halt to Israeli attacks in Lebanon, while Washington would commit to easing sanctions on Iranโs oil sector during the negotiation period. Iranian officials reportedly linked progress on the deal to broader guarantees involving trade, energy exports and regional stability.
Furthermore, the report stated that the Strait of Hormuz would not immediately return to its full pre-war operational status. However, the number of ships permitted to pass through the strategic waterway would gradually return to pre-war levels within 30 days if the agreement is finalised.
Iran also stressed its sovereign authority over the Strait of Hormuz and said it would later announce additional measures related to enforcement and navigation control. At the same time, Tehran reportedly demanded at least a partial release of its frozen foreign assets as part of the understanding.
Meanwhile, the proposed deal would open a 60-day negotiation period focused on Iranโs nuclear programme. Iranian officials also called for the removal of the US blockade on Iranian ports, arguing that maritime conditions in the strait would remain unchanged if restrictions continued.
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that an agreement to end the war had been โlargely negotiatedโ and awaited final approval. The diplomatic progress followed recent visits to Tehran by Asim Munir, while Pakistan previously mediated a ceasefire on April 8.
