KARACHI: A 12-year-old girl was killed and her father sustained injuries after a car allegedly driven by an underage boy struck their motorcycle on Naya Nazimabad Bridge on Sunday evening, police and rescue officials said.
According to a traffic police officer, the driver, believed to be around 12 or 13 years old, was travelling in car ADA-714 with another teenager when the vehicle collided with the motorcycle at approximately 5:30pm.
The impact critically injured the girl, identified as Khaula, and her 35-year-old father, Mohammed Yunus.
Girl Pronounced Dead at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital
Rescue teams rushed Khaula and her father to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital following the collision.
However, doctors pronounced the 12-year-old girl dead after she arrived at the hospital. Meanwhile, medical staff admitted Yunus for treatment after he sustained injuries in the crash.
Police and rescue officials confirmed the casualties following the accident.
The incident has also drawn attention to the circumstances in which the underage boy allegedly gained access to the vehicle and drove it on a public road.
Police Arrest Underage Driver and Impound Car
Police arrested the underage driver following the collision and took the vehicle into custody as part of their investigation.
Moreover, authorities summoned the boy’s father to Shahrah-i-Noorjehan Police Station after the incident.
Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash and determine how the underage boy came to be driving the car.
The collision occurred during the early evening on Naya Nazimabad Bridge.
Police have not provided further details about the second teenager travelling in the vehicle or announced whether authorities will take additional legal action in connection with the fatal crash.
