Tehran welcomes Chinaโs support for diplomatic efforts
TEHRAN: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said ongoing mediation efforts involving Pakistan have not failed but remain extremely challenging because of deep mistrust between Tehran and Washington.
Speaking about current diplomatic efforts, Araghchi said the negotiation process continues despite significant obstacles linked mainly to what he described as American behaviour during discussions.
โThe mediation process by Pakistan has not failed yet, but it is in a very difficult course,โ Araghchi stated.
Furthermore, he said Iran appreciates support from countries willing to assist diplomatic efforts, particularly China, which he described as a trusted strategic partner with positive intentions.
Araghchi highlighted Chinaโs earlier role in helping restore diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying Beijing had previously contributed constructively to regional diplomacy.
โWe know that the Chinese have good intentions,โ he added while expressing hope for continued Chinese involvement in mediation efforts.
Hormuz security linked to progress in negotiations
Meanwhile, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that successful negotiations could improve security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz and accelerate the normalisation of maritime traffic through the strategically vital waterway.
Araghchi said Iran hopes diplomatic progress will eventually lead to complete security in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the worldโs most important energy transit routes.
Additionally, tensions surrounding the strait have intensified in recent months due to regional instability, military concerns, and disruptions affecting global shipping and oil markets.
Political analysts believe Iranโs latest comments indicate Tehran remains interested in diplomatic engagement despite continuing disagreements with the United States over sanctions, nuclear issues, and regional security matters.
At the same time, Pakistan and China continue playing increasingly visible diplomatic roles in efforts aimed at reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue across the Middle East.
Neither Washington nor Pakistani officials immediately responded publicly to Araghchiโs latest remarks regarding the mediation process.
