Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said Lebanon and the “Axis of Resistance” remain among Tehran’s clear and principled red lines. He also stated that lasting peace in Lebanon could only be achieved through Iran.
Ghalibaf made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with a delegation of senior Hezbollah officials. The delegation travelled to Iran to attend the funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
What is the Axis of Resistance?
The “Axis of Resistance” refers to Iranian-backed groups that oppose Israeli and US influence in the Middle East.
The alliance includes the Palestinian group Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthi movement in Yemen, and several armed groups operating in Iraq and Syria.
Ghalibaf outlines Iran’s negotiating position
During the meeting, Ghalibaf said Iran had protected its core interests throughout its understanding with Washington. He stressed that support for the Resistance Front remained unchanged.
“We have maintained clear and principled red lines in the negotiations,” Ghalibaf was quoted as saying.
“One of these red lines is the issue of the resistance front and Lebanon.”
He also reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to supporting the Resistance Front. According to Ghalibaf, Iran considers its backing of Hezbollah and allied groups an “Islamic and revolutionary duty.”
Iran praises Hezbollah’s role
Ghalibaf also praised Hezbollah’s performance during the recent conflict. He described it as a “historic turning point” that reflected the enduring relationship between Iran and regional resistance groups.
Furthermore, he criticised the United States. He said Washington had consistently proven to be “unreliable and untrustworthy.” However, he insisted that Iran had remained committed to its principles during negotiations.
Senior Hezbollah official reaffirms ties with Tehran
Muhammad Fneish, a senior Hezbollah official, thanked Ghalibaf for his role on the diplomatic front.
He also reaffirmed the close relationship between Hezbollah and the Islamic Republic. His remarks reflected the continued political coordination between the Lebanese group and Tehran.
Ghalibaf’s statements underscore Iran’s position that Lebanon and the Resistance Front remain central to its regional policy. At the same time, his comments indicate that Tehran does not consider these issues open to compromise during its engagement with Washington.
