Tehran links stability to end of aggression
Iran has called for firm guarantees against future US and Israeli attacks before committing to security in the oil-rich Gulf region. Speaking at a United Nations Security Council session on Monday, Iranโs ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani stressed that lasting stability depends on halting what he described as ongoing aggression.
The session, requested by Bahrain, saw multiple countries criticise Iran over its control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. However, Iravani argued that sustainable peace requires a permanent end to hostilities against Iran, along with credible assurances that such actions will not recur. He added that respecting Iranโs sovereignty remains essential for regional stability.
Furthermore, Iravani expressed frustration that participants focused criticism solely on Tehran. He said no country addressed what he described as a US-imposed naval blockade, which he labelled a serious violation of international norms.

In addition, Iravani accused the United States and Israel of waging a large-scale and unjustified war against Iran since late February. He claimed these actions violate the UN Charter and contribute directly to rising tensions and instability in the Strait of Hormuz.
Moreover, he alleged that US forces have seized Iranian commercial vessels and detained their crews, describing such measures as illegal and comparable to piracy. According to him, these steps represent dangerous escalation and threaten global maritime security.
Meanwhile, Iravani maintained that Iran has taken necessary actions as a coastal state to safeguard navigation. He said Tehran aims to prevent the waterway from being used for hostile military operations while ensuring safe passage.
