Video Appears to Confirm Direct Hit
Hezbollah released footage Sunday night showing one of its First-Person View (FPV) drones striking an Israeli Iron Dome battery near the northern border. Although the Israeli military issued no official statement, unofficial IDF sources reportedly did not challenge the authenticity of the video.
Moreover, the footage itself appeared to confirm the strike. Reports suggested the attack may have taken place several days earlier, while Hezbollah likely delayed publication to compile and edit the recording before release.
The development highlighted growing concerns inside Israelโs defense establishment over the increasing use of FPV drones by armed groups across the region.
IDF Faces Mounting Challenges Against FPV Threat
The Israeli military has struggled to counter FPV drones effectively because operators control them manually through specialized cables, helping them bypass advanced Israeli jamming and tracking systems.
Furthermore, during a recent visit by The Jerusalem Post to southern Lebanon, senior Israeli officers revealed that the IDF had launched several pilot programs aimed at improving detection and interception capabilities against FPV drones. However, officials acknowledged the military was still adapting to the rapidly evolving threat in real time.
Since 2024, Israel has improved its ability to intercept conventional drones. Nevertheless, FPV drones, widely used during the Russia-Ukraine war, have presented a new operational challenge for Israeli air defenses.
In March, former Israeli air defense chief Brigadier General Ran Kochav warned that the IDF was not adequately protecting critical defense systems, including Iron Dome, Davidโs Sling, and Arrow batteries. He stressed that if air defense systems become vulnerable, broader national defenses could weaken significantly.
