KARACHI: Senior meteorologist Muhammad Aslam on Sunday warned that temperatures across southern Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan will continue to rise, with an expected increase of three to four degrees after May 6.
He said the intensity of the heat is already affecting public health, as hospitals report a growing number of patients suffering from heat related illnesses. Consequently, he urged citizens to take immediate precautions to avoid serious health risks.
Meanwhile, Aslam advised people to remain indoors during peak hours, particularly between 10 am and 4 pm, when temperatures reach their highest levels. He also recommended wearing light colored clothing and covering the head with a cap or cloth to reduce direct exposure to sunlight.
In addition, he stressed the importance of staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water and natural fluids such as sugarcane juice. These measures, he noted, can help prevent dehydration and heatstroke during extreme conditions.
Furthermore, he highlighted the need for special care for vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers. Farmers were also urged to protect livestock by ensuring adequate shade, water, and cooling arrangements as temperatures climb.
At the same time, motorists were advised to exercise caution while travelling. He recommended carrying water, avoiding unnecessary trips during peak hours, and maintaining vehicles to prevent breakdowns in extreme heat.
Finally, Aslam emphasized the importance of following official weather advisories and local administration guidelines. He added that public awareness and timely precautions remain essential to minimizing the impact of the ongoing heatwave.
