Health authorities issued an urgent alert on Wednesday after laboratory tests confirmed that a batch of the antibiotic Azomix was counterfeit, according to a report by Private channel.
The Drug Testing Laboratory identified a fake 500mg batch of the medicine during routine analysis. Following the discovery, the provincial Health Department immediately circulated a formal warning through regulatory channels.
Officials directed the manufacturer to recall the identified batch at once and remove any remaining stock from the market. At the same time, authorities instructed field drug inspectors to halt the sale and distribution of the counterfeit medicine at pharmacies and medical stores.
Health officials said the action aims to safeguard public health and prevent the use of substandard or potentially dangerous drugs. They also launched further investigations to trace how the counterfeit batch entered the supply chain.
Authorities urged pharmacists, healthcare providers and distributors to stay alert and promptly report any suspected stock of the affected medicine to regulators.
