Negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire have reached a deadlock as Hamas refuses to disarm and move forward with the next phase of the agreement, according to reports on Sunday.
Talks between Board of Peace Director General Nickolay Mladenov and a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al Hayya have stalled over key conditions Palestinian sources said Hamas insists it will only surrender weapons after the full implementation of the first phase. This phase includes a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and guarantees for the creation of an independent Palestinian state.
However, Israel has rejected those conditions. Officials stated that forces will not withdraw beyond the so called yellow line, a restricted boundary zone inside Gaza with heavy military presence. Consequently, this disagreement has become a major obstacle to advancing negotiations.
Meanwhile, Israeli security officials warned that continued refusal to disarm could trigger renewed military action. A security source said Hamas appears to be delaying progress, adding that the army may resume operations if no compromise is reached.
At the same time, regional reports indicated that Hamas submitted a proposal outlining specific ุดุฑูุท related to disarmament, although details remain undisclosed. In response, Israelโs security cabinet convened to assess the situation and consider next steps.
Furthermore, Israeli officials emphasized the need for clear actions, including disarmament and the establishment of a technocratic administration in Gaza. Without these measures, they argue, any agreement would remain incomplete.
Ultimately, the negotiations face growing uncertainty as both sides maintain firm positions. As tensions persist, the risk of renewed conflict continues to rise, complicating efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza.
