Leaders engage on sidelines of global gathering
Hakan Fidan met Shehbaz Sharif in Antalya, the Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday. The meeting took place ahead of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where global leaders have gathered to address pressing international challenges.
According to a statement shared on Türkiye’s social media platform NSosyal, both leaders held discussions shortly before the forum’s formal sessions. However, officials did not disclose details about the agenda or outcomes of the meeting.
Meanwhile, Sharif arrived in Türkiye to participate in the high-level forum after completing visits to Riyadh and Doha as part of a three-nation tour. The Antalya Diplomacy Forum, scheduled from April 17 to 19, has drawn senior officials and policymakers from around the world.
The event, hosted under the auspices of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focuses this year on the theme “Mapping Tomorrow, Managing Uncertainties,” highlighting global instability and emerging risks.
Regional diplomacy and evolving negotiations
In addition, foreign ministers from Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt are expected to meet on the sidelines of the forum. These discussions come amid renewed efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran.
At the same time, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir visited Tehran to explore possibilities for facilitating another round of talks. Türkiye has also maintained active engagement with both Washington and Tehran, urging restraint and dialogue.
Furthermore, recent negotiations between the US and Iran ended without a breakthrough, although both sides continue to consider further discussions. The conflict, initially sparked by a surprise offensive ordered by Donald Trump, has expanded across the region, intensifying tensions and prompting urgent diplomatic efforts.
