Rescue teams shift injured to nearby hospitals
At least eight people lost their lives and 30 others suffered injuries after a passenger coach crashed on the M-8 highway in Balochistanโs Jhal Magsi district on Thursday. According to police officials, the coach was travelling from Kharan to Larkana when the accident occurred near the Barija area.
Authorities said the vehicle lost control and met with a serious accident, leaving several passengers trapped inside the damaged coach. Rescue workers and local residents immediately launched relief efforts to pull injured passengers from the wreckage.
Meanwhile, District Health Officer Ali Magsi confirmed that emergency teams shifted the injured to BHU Barija for urgent medical treatment. He stated that the bodies of multiple victims, including a child and a woman, were also transported to the health facility after the crash.
Furthermore, medical officials said seven critically injured passengers required advanced treatment and were later referred to hospitals in Larkana because of their severe condition.
Authorities investigate cause of deadly accident
Rescue officials reported that emergency operations faced delays due to a shortage of ambulances and limited medical resources in the area. Despite the challenges, rescue personnel continued evacuation efforts and assisted injured passengers throughout the operation.
At the same time, police teams reached the accident site shortly after receiving reports of the crash. Officers secured the area and launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
In addition, authorities have not yet confirmed whether speeding, mechanical failure, or road conditions contributed to the deadly accident. Officials said investigators would examine the vehicle and collect witness statements before releasing further details.
Road accidents remain a major concern across several highways in Pakistan, particularly on routes lacking proper emergency response infrastructure and safety measures.
