A Karachi court criticized the investigating officer over procedural lapses in the high-profile Anmol alias Pinky drug trafficking case. The judicial magistrate observed that the main accused had remained in jail for a month without a formal arrest. Consequently, the court questioned the handling of the investigation.
The hearing took place at Karachi City Court, where alleged facilitators Aqib and Ghulam Abbas appeared before the magistrate. During proceedings, the court learned that Anmol Pinky’s name had not been included in the case paperwork.
Court Raises Concerns Over Investigation Process
Judicial Magistrate Naeem Akhtar questioned the investigating officer over the failure to formally arrest the jailed suspect. He said no justification existed for delaying the arrest despite the accused already being in custody. Moreover, the magistrate asked how such an investigation could proceed effectively.
The state counsel assured the court that authorities would complete Anmol Pinky’s formal arrest on the same day. However, the magistrate continued expressing concern over the apparent procedural shortcomings.
Police Seek More Time for Evidence Collection
The investigating officer informed the court that police still needed to recover a mobile phone allegedly used in the crime. He added that investigators also aimed to arrest other absconding members of the suspected network. Therefore, the prosecution requested additional physical remand for the two accused.
The court accepted the request and extended the physical remand of Aqib and Ghulam Abbas by two more days. Meanwhile, officials confirmed that serious drug trafficking cases remain registered against the suspects at Garden and Boat Basin police stations in Karachi.
