Security personnel killed in multiple incidents across Kurdish regions
Armed clashes intensified across western and northwestern Iran after separate attacks killed several members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and police forces, according to local and regional media reports.
Iraq-based Shafaq News reported that four Iranian security personnel were killed and several others wounded in two separate attacks on Tuesday. Meanwhile, IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency said two IRGC members lost their lives and two others sustained injuries during what it described as an armed terrorist attack in the border city of Paveh in Kermanshah province.
Separately, unidentified gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Baneh, Kurdistan province, killing two police officers and injuring three others, including a three-year-old girl. Authorities have not identified those responsible.
PJAK-linked clashes fuel growing regional tensions
Meanwhile, Rojhelat.Info reported that armed confrontations continue in Paveh, Marivan and Mahabad, indicating a widening security challenge across Iran’s Kurdish-populated western provinces. Local sources claimed another attack targeted Iranian military positions in the Doli Mirawa area of Paveh, reportedly killing at least three security personnel, although independent verification remains unavailable.
The report linked recent clashes in Marivan and Mahabad to the Eastern Kurdistan Defense Units (YRK), the armed wing of the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK). PJAK, widely regarded as the Iranian branch of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has recently increased coordination with several Kurdish opposition groups despite longstanding ideological differences.
Analysts say the renewed violence reflects mounting tensions in western Iran as authorities continue efforts to suppress armed opposition groups operating near the Iraqi border. Meanwhile, Iran has continued urging Iraq to curb the activities of Kurdish opposition factions based inside the Kurdistan Region.
