China has called for a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East and demanded the reopening of critical shipping lanes as tensions continue to disrupt global trade routes. The statement came after the strategic Strait of Hormuz was effectively closed during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, raising fears of severe economic and energy supply consequences worldwide.
During a summit in Beijing, US President Donald Trump held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the escalating regional situation. The high-level meeting focused on security concerns, trade stability, and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the Gulf region.
China Pushes for Stability
Following the first day of the summit, Trump revealed in an interview with Fox News that Xi assured him China would not provide military assistance to Tehran. According to Trump, the Chinese leader strongly stated that Beijing had no intention of supplying military equipment to Iran.
Trump also noted that Xi expressed support for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and offered assistance in promoting regional stability. The waterway remains one of the worldโs most vital energy transit routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil exports.
Global Shipping Concerns Rise
Meanwhile, Chinaโs foreign ministry emphasized the importance of restoring peace and stability in the Middle East through diplomatic efforts. The ministry stated that all parties should work toward achieving a lasting ceasefire as quickly as possible.
In addition, Chinese officials stressed that shipping lanes must reopen immediately in response to growing international concern over disrupted maritime trade. Analysts warn that prolonged instability in the Strait of Hormuz could trigger major economic uncertainty and increase pressure on global energy markets.
