BEIJING URGES DE-ESCALATION AMID REGIONAL TENSIONS
Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East on Wednesday, warning that the Gulf region has reached a critical point between war and peace. He made the remarks during talks with Vladimir Putin, who is currently visiting China on a state trip.
During the discussions, Xi stressed the importance of preventing further escalation and urged all sides to take steps toward reducing tensions. According to reports released following the meeting, he said ongoing developments in the region require urgent action to avoid deeper instability and wider consequences.
Meanwhile, Xi also linked the situation to broader international developments, stating that the current global environment remains increasingly unstable and unpredictable.
CHINA AND RUSSIA EMPHASIZE STRATEGIC COOPERATION
At the same time, the Chinese president called for stronger strategic coordination between China and Russia, emphasizing long-term cooperation between the two countries on major international issues.
Xi stated that both nations, as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, should adopt a strategic perspective and work together on issues affecting global stability and governance. He further said China and Russia should continue advancing national development goals through stronger coordination and broader cooperation.
In addition, Xi argued that the current international environment has seen renewed challenges, including the return of unilateral approaches and power-based politics. However, he added that peace, development, and cooperation continue to represent the wider aspirations of people around the world.
Earlier in the day, Putin received a formal welcome ceremony outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing before the two leaders began official talks.
