The Punjab government has introduced a two-year relaxation in the upper age limit for candidates seeking to appear in the Provincial Management Service (PMS) examination. The special measure will apply to the 2026 and 2027 competitive examinations.
Under the one-time relaxation, candidates aged up to 32 years can apply for PMS BS-17 posts. The decision gives older eligible applicants another opportunity to compete for provincial government positions.
PMS Age Limit Relaxed for Two Years
The relaxation specifically covers recruitment through the PMS BS-17 combined competitive examination. It does not extend to other government recruitment categories.
The special provision will remain effective from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027. Therefore, candidates who fall within the revised age bracket can benefit during this period.
Applicants who would normally exceed the existing upper age limit can now participate in the PMS competitive examinations. This change could significantly expand the pool of candidates eligible for the upcoming examinations.
Notification Issued Following Rule Changes
The Services and General Administration Department (S&GAD) issued the notification after amendments received approval from the Punjab governor.
The amendments affect the Punjab Civil Servants Recruitment (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1976. They provide the legal basis for the temporary age relaxation introduced for PMS recruitment.
However, the concession remains limited to PMS BS-17 recruitment. Candidates applying for other provincial government positions will continue to follow the applicable age requirements.
Opportunity for More PMS Aspirants
The decision offers additional opportunities to candidates who may have crossed the previous age limit. Many such applicants can now consider appearing in the competitive examination during the two-year period.
The PMS examination provides a pathway to BS-17 positions in Punjab’s provincial administration. Consequently, the age relaxation could encourage more experienced candidates to enter the competitive process.
Candidates planning to apply should carefully check the official examination requirements. They should also confirm the relevant cut-off dates and eligibility conditions before submitting applications.
The temporary measure will remain in effect until the end of 2027. After that period, candidates will again be subject to the applicable upper age limit unless authorities introduce another change.
The two-year relaxation therefore gives eligible applicants a limited window to pursue PMS careers. Those who qualify under the revised age criteria can use the opportunity to prepare and compete for BS-17 positions in Punjab.
