Design Upgrades and Performance Enhancements Lead Updates
Apple unveiled iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 during its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), introducing a host of new features aimed at improving performance, customization, and user experience across its devices.
The company has already made both operating systems available to developers, while a public beta is scheduled for release next month. Apple plans to roll out the final versions to users later this year.
Although Siri AI and Apple Intelligence dominated the event, Apple also highlighted several major software improvements. Notably, the company refined its Liquid Glass interface by adding a transparency slider that allows users to adjust visual effects according to their preferences. Additionally, Apple improved screen contrast, enhanced refraction effects, and sharpened app icons for a more polished appearance.
Meanwhile, iOS 27 promises significant performance gains. Apple said app launches will be up to 30 percent faster, while new photos will load in the library up to 70 percent quicker. AirDrop transfers are expected to improve by as much as 80 percent. Furthermore, smoother transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular networks and an optimized CPU scheduler aim to deliver a more responsive experience.
Accessibility, Sharing and Productivity Receive Attention
Apple also expanded accessibility and collaboration tools. The Mail app now features an upgraded search-ranking system that prioritizes relevant results. At the same time, VoiceOver gains richer image descriptions, Action Button integration, automatic subtitle generation, and translation support for captions in multiple languages.
In addition, iCloud Shared Albums will now allow Android and Windows users to contribute photos, while full-resolution sharing becomes available for all participants. Apple Maps is also receiving an enhanced Flyover mode.
For iPad users, iPadOS 27 introduces customizable slideshow creation, improved notification syncing, and natural-language calendar management. Moreover, Apple claims browsing and transferring files between iPads and external drives will be up to five times faster, further strengthening the tablet’s productivity capabilities.
